Description

Call for papers: The Future of Political Science

Contributions are invited for a special issue of Theoria aimed at exploring the future of the discipline of political science. For this special issue contributors are invited to reflect on the present and future prospects of political science in the context of recent theoretical, methodological, practical, real-world or other developments.

Contributions from across the social sciences and humanities, both discipline-specific and interdisciplinary, will be welcomed.

Contributors are encouraged to reflect directly on the nature of political science as discipline and as academic practice, on the major contemporary theories, theorists and methodologies that inform and structure the discipline, on the impact of other disciplines, and on broad trends in policy and research. For example, will political science become an extension of economic science? How significant for the discipline is the rise of public choice theory? Will the growing fields of international relations, and political ethics, completely supplant the field of governments, states and constitutions? What are the implications, for political theory, of an increasingly integrated world? By whom are the agendas of contemporary political science being most significantly defined? Comparative perspectives and case studies, both qualitative and quantitative, will also be welcomed.

The deadline for submission of papers is 31 August 2005. Three hard copies of each paper, as well as an electronic version (preferably MSWord), an abstract and a short (three line) biography, should be sent to: Roger Deacon, Managing Editor: THEORIA, P.O.Box 50324, Randjesfontein, 1683, South Africa; e-mail: deacon@ukzn.ac.za.
