Recently there has been a notable worldwide increase in the number of small-scale private generation installations. Amongst other reasons, these have arisen through the increased popularity of combined heat and power (CHP) schemes along with the uptake from the incentive schemes such as the UK's Non Fossil Fuel Obligation agreement on renewable energies. This trend is expected to continue with, for instance, the UK Government's intention that the output from electricity generated from renewable energy sources to be 20% by the year 2020 coupled with the uncertainty over the future of nuclear energy.
