In the backdrop of new dimensions of privatization and globalization coupled with problems of generating resources and its efficient utilization, the seminar is expected to serve as a forum for exchange of experiences and work plans among important personalities in the field of higher education of the developing nations and to generate some general observations and prescriptions in the process. Participants will have the opportunity to get an exposure of the current and potential future international developments, to exchange experience and to draw conclusions for their own work. They will also have the opportunity to meet their counterparts from other developing countries and to learn about different approaches to higher education institutions for the future. Keynote speakers will analyze the broad trends and identify the issues which need to be addressed, and case studies from a number of countries will be presented. There will be site visits to educational facilities in and around the University of Calcutta.
Call for papers:
Paper sessions will consist of four to five presentations in a 90 minute session. Each session will be equally divided among the presenters.
The abstract along with a title page should be written within 500 words. The title page should include (a) title of submission, (ii) theme area (to be chosen from the given list), (iii) name of the author, (iv) designation with department, (v) mailing address, (vi) e-mail address, (vii) phone number(s) and (viii) fax number. The full paper should be within 5000 words and printed in A4 size paper in Times New Roman, 12- point font.

Ø Letter of acceptance will be sent to the selected authors within 07.11.2005
Ø Full paper should be sent by the selected authors within 15.12.2005
Participation is open to those who have a professional interest in the themes of the seminar and may include elected representatives, officials of national and international higher education organizations, education planners, researchers ,etc.
The working language for the seminar is English.
The registration for the seminar is free.
Accommodation and Food:
International and outstation participants/delegates (outside West Bengal) will be provided free of cost accommodation on twin sharing basis at suitable hotels/guest houses including all meals. The state-level and local participants will be paid a daily allowance @ Rs. 200/- only for the days of the seminar.
Cost of travel to and from Kolkata(Calcutta), India, shall have to be borne by the participants. However, arrangements for all local travel including travel from/to railway stations/airport will be made by the organizers.
The detail programme will be available at the University website www.caluniv.ac.in/ by the end of October, 2005. This will also be emailed to each participant in due course of time.
