Contracting private developers to both generate electricity as well as to desalinise water through Independent Water & Power Projects (IWPPs) has emerged as the most important innovation in the water & energy sectors of the leading economies of the world. However, whilst IWPPs appear to offer great hope to solve a combination of critical infrastructure issues simultaneously they are complex to analyse, prepare, tender, contract, finance and to implement. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a specialised group of water & energy sector planners, policy-makers, utility managers and private developers, investors and lenders with a customised package of international models, best practices and lessons learned from international case studies specifically for IWPP transactions. Delegates will benefit from the tools, models and best practices they need to strengthen the design of their water & electricity strategies, to implement policies, programs, institutions and IWPP transactions better. Through the presentation of first-hand case studies from the Middle East & North America, southern Europe, regions of the USA, participants will have a firm grasp of teh best practices and models to emulate in implementing IWPPs as well as the mistakes to avoid.
