The US military has explored a new kind of weaponry that is instantaneous, precise and virtually inexhaustible firepower known as Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs). DEWs provide the ability to attack a target using a beam of concentrated electromagnetic energy or a beam of light primarily as a direct means to damage or destroy enemy equipment, facilities, and personnel at light speed or near light speed – the advantage of which is that a soldier can establish a visual identification and kill with no time lag from ID to shoot. These weapons range in power from non-lethal to highly lethal and destructive and range in size from man-portable to platform based, Directed Energy Weapons are in fact among the high-tech arms of the century, with strong physical and psychological effects that can be used for military and terrorist activities.

The Directed Energy Warfare conference will bring attention to the developments in Directed Energy and how the technology will enhance the war-fighters capabilities, focus will also be held on spearheading initiatives in existing and future plans and requirements amongst the various Joint forces. There is a pressing and timely need to address progress and future direction of the technology in the various DoD department’s operational objectives (battle-space dominance, power projection, command and force sustenance, etc.) Directed Energy Warfare will be an informative and highly engaging executive forum that will allow delegates the opportunity to hear about the “best practices” and the testing and training techniques for using directed energy systems. It will take a look at the application of directed energy to protect the nation’s infrastructure and the policies and procedures that apply to get the technology from the labs to safe deployment to the war-fighters. Industry will be afforded the opportunity to hear the efficiencies and further requirements of their products – directly from key strategy, policy and planning personnel and there will be ample opportunity to discuss future imperatives in formulating practical and cost-effective solutions.
