The successful use of unmanned vehicles in recent operations has led to recognition of their broader utility and to additional calls for more unmanned vehicles by President George W. Bush and his Secretary of Defense, Donald H. Rumsfeld. Attracted by the prospect of lower unit costs and risks for unmanned vehicles than for manned vehicles, all of the services have been active in this area. They are fast becoming a commander’s primary asset for inexpensive force multiplication. Roles of these vehicles include ISR, coastal surveillance, mine countermeasure, anti-submarine warfare, communication, navigation and many more.

The US DoD is currently exploring the vast potentials of UUV’s and USV’s. They are working to better understand and refine the systems to allow for a wide variety of future implementation. Although some unmanned maritime vehicles are currently in use, it’s true potential has not yet been fully researched and developed.

By attending this event you will explore the concepts, tactics and technology that drive UWV’s. The event will address key UWV issues including unmanned armed vehicle safety, ship based launching & recovery, littoral combat, command & control, navigation/position verification, object avoidance and integration with naval forces.

The event will also feature two half-day workshops. One of these workshops will be an in-depth look at testing and evaluation of unmanned systems. The workshop will allow participants to engage in an interactive forum and share their perspectives on platforms for this testing and evaluation work. The other workshop will deal with the complex requirements of unmanned vehicle robotics.
