Explosive advances in science and technology have revolutionized the research and discovery of new, life saving drugs. These advances have also radically changed pharmaceutical manufacturing and delivery systems, increasing the challenge of designing optimal manufacturing processes for the efficient, safe production of pharmaceutical products. To successfully meet this challenge, Pharmaceutical professionals must be fluent in the language of basic chemical process engineering principles, knowledgeable in the engineering sciences and unit operations of pharmaceutical manufacturing. The huge expense for the pharmaceutical industry in developing a new drug, increase in population, outburst of new dreadful diseases and increased use of pharmaceuticals creates greater demand for new medications while pressure to reduce the cost of those medicines increases as well.

To solve these problems the Pharmaceutical industries looks into a new breed of engineers – called the Pharmaceutical Engineers who can -

Streamline and manage the expensive task of developing drugs and optimize drug delivery.

Manage other issues like lab design, air handling, water purification and effluent treatment

Make the entire process faster, more efficient, and therefore more profitable.

Apply the rigorous and systematic use of engineering concepts and methods to scientific design, development and optimize pharmaceutical processes and products.

Over the past one decade, a handful of pharmaceutical engineering programmes have popped up globally in various universities. Its our pride to say that for the first time in India, Pharmaceutical Engineering degree programme is being conducted by Bharathidasan University.
