Description THE INFORMATION SOCIETY: Technical Challenges

Information Systems and Technologies present the prime avenues for reaching the so called “Information Society”, a term that can be taken to mean the human society which employs information systems, with a significant underlying base of information and communication technologies, in tangible, pervasive and effective ways to promote its socio-economic development. Despite the fact that the fundamental ICT tool; the computer, had existed since the late 1940, the majority of economically developing countries have not made significant inroads into making computers a truly effective tools in catching up on lost grounds by reducing poverty, disease and inequality. During the same period that computing and communication technologies developed to what they are today, the numbers of ICT specialists has steadily increased throughout the developed as well as the developing worlds. It seems logical to suggest that there is plenty that ICT specialists, academics and users can do to further the exploitation of ICT to serve the advancement of the human societies around the globe.

This conference brings together ICT researchers and practitioners to exchange views, positions and research results on the technical side of putting ICT into the service of society. The main aim of this conference is to establish a working dialogue about the effective use of ICT methodologies, techniques, formalisms and tools, as well as their combinations in order to address issues that affect the successful development, implementation and use of ICT in bringing the concept of information society into full realization. The conference also aims to highlight outstanding issues that should form a part of the forthcoming research agenda in the area of the relevance and operation alisation of research methodology issues in information systems and technologies. The conference program committee will organize papers into the four tracks of Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems and Decision Support Systems. The list of topics in which papers are invited include, but is not limited to:

Information Security
Information Assurance
Data Quality and Information Assurance
