Venue CSIR International Convention Centre
Description Organised by the Gauteng and Environs Library Consortium (GAELIC)

The academic library consortium, GAELIC, is hosting a two day symposium called “The e-Services Environment: Changing to a Higher Gear” from 9-10 May 2005 at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria.

The focus of the symposium is to examine the challenges facing South African academic and research libraries in delivering e-Services especially within the emerging e-Research environment where our libraries find themselves at the centre of converging streams of technology, digital scholarship and changing research practices.

The symposium is an opportunity for both international and South African colleagues to share their insights and expertise so that our librarians are equipped to plan and act strategically. Find out how we can lead our institutions in addressing the new needs of digital scholarship (humanities, social sciences and physical sciences), and get to grips with what the e-Research infrastructure requires. The presentations and workshops will consider the implications of e-Research for our research libraries and research institutions, including data curation, open access, institutional repositories, digital expertise etc

The target audience is library and information professionals in research and academic environments, including academic libraries, research council libraries, national and provincial government department libraries, corporate research libraries, public & community library research sections, LIS teaching departments.

Seize the moment to network with international and South African experts and colleagues brought together by GAELIC to explore and share how the rapidly emerging e-Services will impact your library and organisation. Be part of the debate about the challenges facing South African academic and research libraries in delivering e-Services.

Diarise it now- join us at the GAELIC 2005 Symposium.
