Asia still remains the engine of growth in the coatings industry. In matured market like North America, growth of OEM coatings is only about 3% annually and slightly less than that in Europe. China, with its robust economy, propelled Asian industrial coatings growth to 5% annually. Vietnam is looking more like a jewel as well. Just over a decade ago, coatings manufacturing output was 10,000 tonnes per annum. 2005¡¯s forecast exceeds over 100,000 tonnes, particularly in water-based products for decorative coatings.
