Description Debris flows, such as the other dense and hyper-concentrated flows, are among the most frequent and destructive of all geomorphic processes and the damage they cause is often devastating.

Due to the increased frequency with which debris flows occur and the potential impact they have on human life, they have attracted increasing attention from research groups and land planning and management professionals.

Increased anthropisation calls for improvements in the criteria used to identify debris flow risk areas and the prevention measures adopted. This conference will consider the monitoring, simulation, prevention and remediation of debris flow phenomena. It will also discuss all other types of dense and hyper-concentrated flows.

The meeting will study their fundamental mechanical principles, as well as their rheological properties, and phenomenological aspects. Particular attention will be given to modelling techniques and case studies. The conference will also address the problem of debris flow disaster mitigation using structural and non-structural measures.
