The second edition of the International Art & Craft Expo, which has taken the name the International Art & Antique Expo 2006 in keeping with the show’s shift of focus towards antiques following overwhelming demand for antique articles at the previous edition, will have an extensive line-up of regional and international exhibitors, with more than 250 exhibitors from over 30 countries participating in the event. The event, held under the patronage and support of the Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing - Government of Dubai, Dubai Cultural Council, and the Emirates Fine Arts Society, will be held at the Madinat Jumeirah Conference Hall in Dubai from April 19 to 21, 2006.
The success of the inaugural edition of the exhibition has encouraged the organizers, Global Links, to increase the show’s size and scope this time around, in order to accommodate the rise in exhibitor and visitor numbers and the broader exhibit range. The one-of-a-kind exhibition aims to facilitate cultural exchange and the globalization of the art & antique market in the Middle East region.

“The International Art & Antique Expo 2006 is the premier event of its kind in the region. The specialized show will feature a veritable collection of art and antiques, bringing together a multitude of dealers of antiques and art items on a single platform,” said Girish Dabrai, Managing Director, Global Links. “The show will have a special focus on antiques, providing trade buyers with exciting offers and affording antique enthusiasts a rare opportunity to enlarge their collections. There has been a perceptible surge in demand for antiques in the region, particularly in cosmopolitan Dubai, which makes it the ideal city to host this exhibition.”
The International Art & Antique Expo will present an excellent opportunity for exhibitors to conduct direct sales, promote their business, educate visitors, expand client base, create awareness, and network with like-minded individuals. Exhibitors at the event will display decorative art, paintings, accessories, sculpture, glasswork, textiles & carpets, bronzes, ancient furniture, miniatures, ethnic jewellery and much more.
As key patrons to the event, Mr. Marwan bin Beyat, Manager of Events, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing- Government of Dubai, commented, “This event will be a platform for the large number of connoisseurs of art, who would be able to admire these works that will be conducted, and to be appreciated by the affluent in the art scene in Dubai.”
Lending support to the exhibition is the Dubai Cultural Council, an organization that was established through a decree issued by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to facilitate the cultural advancement of Dubai. The Council collaborates with various local departments involved with the cultural landscape of the country as well as with relevant federal institutions, including the Ministry of Information and Culture. Through its endeavors, the Council seeks to facilitate the emergence of Dubai as the cultural capital of the Middle East.
“While Dubai has emerged as a leading tourist and shopping destination, it is essential that sufficient attention is paid to developing the city into a flourishing centre of art and culture. Specialized events like the International Art & Antique Expo will go a long way in promoting art and preserving the rich cultural traditions of the UAE,” said Mr. Khalil Abdulwahid, Dubai Cultural Council.
Commenting on the venue of the show, Dabrai said, “It is imperative that an exhibition for antiques and art is held in a venue that complements the theme of the event. Madinat Jumeirah was an obvious choice for us, given the unique architectural style and the perfect blend of old and new it depicts.”
