| Description |
The International Summer School on Pattern Recognition is the premier event on research training in the area of pattern recognition and machine learning. The school is fully residential and attracts more than 100 participants from a range of backgrounds.
The 4th International Summer School on Pattern Recognition will cover important topics within pattern recognition organized around the themes of statistical pattern recognition and multivariate statistics, neural networks and reinforcement learning, evolutionary computation and optimization, classification, and data mining. It will be presented as a set of tutorials with an introduction to pattern recognition tools directed at postgraduate research students (MSc, MRes, MPhil, PhD), young academics who might want to get seriously involved in pattern recognition and people from industry who wish to apply the technology to real problems. Leading experts in the area of pattern recognition will give lectures and teach introductory to advanced pattern recognition techniques at this important event. Earlier summer schools were organized in Exeter (2003), Plymouth (2004) and Plymouth, UK (2005).
The summer school on pattern recognition will start with a demonstration and learning session with Mathworks, followed by a welcome party and poster presentation / demonstrations by participants on the 23rd of July, 2006. The posters/ demos will describe the research conducted by participants and will be judged for a best poster presentation prize and best demonstration prize by Professor Chris Bishop, Microsoft Research, UK. The prizes will be awarded by Microsoft Research. Participants will also receive 20% discount on all Springer books for orders made within one month after the school concludes.

The ISSPR registration process has started- you can register online from 20 Feb, 2006! Please note that the participants registering each year at the summer school is high (96 participants attended the summer school in 2005 from more than 21 countries) and that the number of seats available is limited. Hence it is advised to register early. Also early registrations before 1 May 2006 will have to pay a lower registration fee. The registration form and procedure is available through the website.
