The British Columbia Ministry of Education is exploring the leading edge of e-conferencing with Interactive Innovations: A Showcase of Learners and Learning, featuring an impressive cast of keynote speakers and presenters who are provincial or international experts in their fields.
The conference will connect 5 educational strands, 7 keynote speakers, and 1,400 educators from throughout North America, in an interactive, innovative learning experience.
It will provide a platform for ongoing professional development, highlight the Ministry’s increasing capability in technology delivery systems, and demonstrate the use of technology for professional growth – an expanding area of expertise within BC.
The May 25-26 conference, organized in partnership with the BC Education Leadership Council, will be held simultaneously in 5 BC communities, all of them interconnected online, in real time. Each site will focus on a single theme and will webcast a keynote presentation to the other sites. Participants will be able to interact in each session, from whichever site they choose to attend.
With a different theme at each location, there will be something for everyone. Locations and themes include:
Whistler ~ Literacy, the essence of learning
Kelowna ~ Early Learning, everyone’s responsibility
Nelson ~ Secondary Learners, success without boundaries
Victoria ~ Shared Leadership, creating capacity for learning
Prince George ~ Equitable Futures, achievement for all
Delegates can register for any one of the 5 sites, picking their theme, or possibly their favoured location.
Whichever site they select, delegates will have the option to access all keynote speakers and have an opportunity to interact with them through webcasting technology. Or, they could decide to attend concurrent sessions at their site, if the subject matter is better suited to their needs and interests.
Each site will feature local educators in the concurrent sessions, which will highlight the regional theme.
The keynotes and concurrent working sessions in each site will support 5 foundational strands:
- connecting curriculum, instruction and assessment
- providing learning in a continuum from rural to urban context
- extending community connections
- creating healthy environments
- using technology as an invisible, seamless support
