The meeting will provide:

-> A forum for education and research by the medical simulation community:

* New methods and target audience in simulator based training

* Evaluation methods and transfer of skills

* Developments in equipment and models

* ...

-> Opportunities for hands-on learning using various simulators:

* Gaumard

* Laerdal

* Limbs & Things

* ...

-> Workshops on

* Setting up a simulation centre

* ...

Special themes of SESAM 06 include “Simulation for perinatal safety” and “Modeling human physiology in full-scale”, the latter referring to all mathematical and/or physical representations of physiology or pharmacology used in educational simulators.

The meeting is hosted by the Institute for Biomedical Engineering and the Medical Simulation Centre, both at the University of Porto. The focus of the investigators and educators at these institutions is on developing new simulation curricula, technologies, and physiologic models for perinatal acute care.
