Youth Crime and Violence: Policy, Prevention and Intervention in the OECS
10-12th October, 2006, Castries, St. Lucia


Crime and Violence, and especially their prevalence among youth, have become a challenge to the small economies of the OECS (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States). This is the first conference that will focus on members and associated members of the OECS: Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The purpose of the conference is to bring scholars/researchers, policy makers, youth practitioners and concerned citizens together to:

• Share information about youth crime and violence in the area
• Collect and make scientific data available to policy makers, institutional directors and youth leaders
• Inform youth crime prevention and intervention practices with local data

Submission of papers: We invite submission of papers (Abstracts due by August 31, 2006) to be read at the conference in the following areas, but not limited to them:
• Youth Crime and Tourism
• Economics/Cost of Youth Crime/Violence
• School Violence
• Youth and Drugs
• Youth Crime and Public/Social Policy
• The Legal System and Youth Crime
• Causes of Youth Crime/Violence
• Fear, Crime and Youth
• Police, Youth and Crime/Violence
• Prevention/Intervention Practices
• Socialization, and Youth Crime
• Gender and Youth Crime
• We are also interested in Theoretical and Methodological Issues of Youth
Crime and Violence

Papers must be on one or any number of the above countries; and content should not have been previously published.
Papers should not be longer than 10 pages, including table and figures (excluding references).

Abstract: Please send a one page abstract as a word document with a brief CV, address, email, and telephone number to andy.joseph@post.harvard.edu no later than August 31, 2006.
