Description

The purpose of this short course is to provide accessible and cost effective geospatial training opportunities throughout Virginia. The short course is based on an introductory level Virginia-based GIS curriculum that integrates raster and vector data. It uses a training manual developed through the Virginia Geospatial Extension Program that combines short presentations and lectures, with hands-on activities using ArcGIS software.

The class is open to all VDH GIS users with little or no previous exposure to GIS. A prerequisite to register for this class is that each registrant must have a registered version of ArcView 9.x. This workshop combines short presentations and lectures, with hands-on activities using ArcGIS software. The class will be taught by a Virginia Tech Instructor. One member of the VDH GIS team will be present at each session to help assist the instructor and answer any questions.

This two day workshop will enable new and novice users to gain valuable experience and hands on training using ESRIs ArcView 9.1 software and Virginia specific data sets. Training is being provided by the Virginia Geospatial Academy (http://www.cnr.vt.edu/geoacademy/), which is associated with the Virginia Tech Geospatial Center located in Blacksburg, VA.
