UAE Government has recently announced its decision to hold federal national council elections followed by elections to various other local bodies. These developments in the UAE have attracted wide interests and have generated a host of discussions on the need, role and effects of elections especially in the national scenario.

Elections are exciting concepts but if not implemented efficiently, there are many instances across the world where it has created more disruptions to the national economy and development than benefits. It intends to educate delegates on the benefits and pitfalls associated with election systems and their role in making it work.

When we talk about the cultural prerequisites of running an election we are not just talking about a process in which a select group of individuals eligible to run for public office campaign while the rest of the people exercise their right to vote by casting ballots. Elections are much more than that. Elections are the outcome of a progressive, open, tolerant, engaging and fearless culture that entrusts its existence in its people, the electorate.

With this end in sight, at Datamatix, we want to explore the fundamental characteristics of elections from a variety of perspectives and to see whether or not regional countries can in fact adopt elections as a stepping stone to creating an open, harmonious, tolerant, accountable and cooperative system of government that does not jeopardizes and endanger our national and regional interest.
