Using Technology to Communicate with Prospective Students 23 October 2008 Online This webinar will highlight technology that can be used by schools to attract and hold the attention of prospective students and their parents during the recruitment cycle. By using already existing free or very low cost technology, institutions can avoid huge IT investments and avoid entering into expensive multiyear contracts with third parties to communicate with prospective students. The session will show how some schools have personalized their recruitment efforts with very minimal increases to their recruitment budget. This session will be very beneficial to those recruitment directors who want do more with their outreach efforts without increasing their budget. Objectives Participants of this webinar will have the opportunity to see how affordable technology has been utilized at some schools to attract prospective students. Institutions will be aware of low cost or free technology available to them to communicate with prospective students. Kahler is currently the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs - Enrollment Management at Western Kentucky University. In his current role, he leads a team of directors from the offices of Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Advising and Retention, Finish WKU Program, Student Disability Support Services and the TRIO Programs. Prior to his current position, Dean was the Director of Admissions at WKU. During his tenure as Director of Admissions he was responsible for supervising marketing and outreach, recruitment, admissions processing, telecounseling, campus tours, international recruitment, orientation and publications. During his service to WKU, that institution realized a significant growth in enrollment and has been the fastest growing university in Kentucky for the last several years. Dean has recently authored a chapter in AACRAOs The College Admissions Officers Guide which is titled "Technology Enhanced Recruitment Communications". Dean has a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from SIUC. His undergraduate degree in Sociology: Criminal Justice was received from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. Dean serves in various professional roles including SACRAOs Editorial Journal Review Board, the Kentucky ACT Advisory Council, teaching AACRAOs online Admissions Manager 101 course and serves on the Admissions Policies and Practices Committee and he is currently the President of KACRAO.
