With Turkey being the next EU accession country infrastructure modernisation has prompted massive investment projects within TCDD and the public transport systems of Turkey's largest cities. Examples include:

• The Marmary Project in Istanbul - ‘The project of the century'; effectively to join the two transport networks either side of the Bosporus to form a seamless public transport network in Istanbul.

• Ankara-Istanbul High Speed Line project. The aim of the project is to reduce travelling time between the two cities from 6.5 hours to 2.5 hours. TCDD believe that they can gain market share of over 70% from both air and road with a service of this quality.

These are two of the current ‘flag ship' projects of the Ministry of Transportation. However, there are many more rail and public transport related projects which offer enormous opportunities to international project managers and suppliers, through private investment, PPPs and EU funding.

Turkey Rail and Public Transport 2007- a European Railway Review and Eurotransport conference will provide the perfect platform for organisations wishing to raise their profile in this burgeoning sector. This two day conference will bring together the senior figures from across Turkey's rail and public transport operators and owners to discuss such projects and further the development of the whole network.
