The seventh international conference on Modelling in Medicine and Biology is a well established and recognized forum for dissemination of the latest research and applications in this important field.

Projections for advances in medical and biological technology will transform medical care and treatment. This in great part is due to the result of the interaction and collaboration between medical sciences and engineering. These advances will result in substantial progress in health care and in the quality of life of the population.

Computer models in particular have been increasingly successful in simulating biological phenomena. These are lending support to many applications, including
cardiovascular systems, the study of orthopaedics and biomechanics, electrical simulation, amongst others.

Another important contribution, due to the wide availability of computational facilities and the development of better numerical algorithms, is the ability to acquire, analyse, manage and visualise massive amounts of data. The conference topics cover a broad spectrum including the application of computers to simulate biomedical problems, the design of artificial organs, new therapies, virtual reality in medicine and many others.

The conference started in Southampton in 1991, and was later held in different locations. The most recent meeting took place in Bologna, Italy in 2005.

Additional Information

This meeting aims to bring together medical and physical scientists and engineers who are interested in the latest developments on simulations in medicine. It will also be relevant to professionals working in medical enterprises, which are actively involved in this field. BIOMED 2007 participants will receive the following complimentary published materials at registration: 1. Distribution of Published Papers All papers presented at BIOMED 2007 and published in the associated proceedings, are reviewed by members of the International Scientific Committee and other colleagues in the field. In addition to being available to delegates at the time of registration, the book will be publicised directly to researchers and institutional libraries and distributed worldwide through the international book trade. Papers presented at BIOMED 2007 will be published by WIT Press in a volume of WIT Transactions on Biomedicine and Health (ISBN: 1-84564-024-1). Papers presented at BIOMED 2007 will also be permanently archived online in the Transactions of the Wessex Institute Collection in a volume of WIT Transactions on Biomedicine and Health ( [ISSN: 1743-3525]). The Collection provides the international scientific community with immediate access to individual papers presented at WIT conferences. Coverage of WIT proceedings appears regularly in notable publications and databases, including: Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Compendex, INSPEC, Thompson Scientific, Scitech Book News as well as the Directory of Published Proceedings. WIT Press is committed to Open–Access and offers authors the option to make their work freely accessible to their colleagues through the Transactions of the E-Library. The conference books published by WIT Press continue to sell for a long time after the meeting has taken place. This is another demonstation of the prestige the scientific community attribute to the meetings organised by the Wessex Institute of Technology. 2. Complimentary Published Materials A hard copy of the BIOMED 2007 Conference Proceedings, published by WIT Press, available at the time of conference registration. A specially prepared CD exclusively for BIOMED 2007 participants, containing the papers presented at previous BIOMED Conferences (1993 - 2005). Information about relevant publishing services and activities.
