The three consortia bidding for the U.K. Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) programme have now submitted their bids and a preferred bidder is scheduled to be selected before the end of 2006. The programme is expected to cost up to $12.5 billion and cover all aspects of providing aircrew for the 3 U.K. Services, with Helicopter Training added from 2012. The winning consortium is likely to be seeking partnering agreements with other companies as the programme evolves. Meanwhile, 12 European nations are still pursuing the Advanced European Jet Pilot Training (AEJPT) programme. A consensus by these countries was hoped for, but diverging national requirements may preclude this. Many other Flight Training Requirements are still emerging around the globe.
