The Conference:

The use of microbial products that benefit and improve our socioeconomic life style has been a part of human history since the day of early civilization. Microbes are exceptionally rich, diverse and easily accessible sources of important metabolites which are useful for maintenance of healthy health. These metabolites vary in structural complexity and biological activity. Many novel antibiotics, anticancerous substances, immunomodulators and therapeutics of microbial origin are developing day by day.
The fertility of soil depends not only on its physical and chemical composition but also on the qualitative and quantitative nature of microorganisms inhabiting it. Microbiological techniques in suppression of crop diseases, production of plant growth promoting substances and augmentation of nutrient recycling offer a powerful tool in modern agriculture. Indeed the processes performed by nitrogen fixing bacteria are so essential that life as we see today could not have existed without their intervention. In India, few companies are now engaged in production of microbial biofertilizers and biopesticides, etc., in order to ensure pollutant free second green revolution.
Now a days microbe-mediated food products have revolutionized the in vitro production of food which are not only delicious but nutritive and disease free too. Microbial preservation techniques, bio-safety measures and bio-processing have opened up a new vista in the development of improved food products.
Considering the importance of microbes in diverse fields, this seminar will focus only on three important aspects: Pharmaceuticals, Food and Agriculture. The interactions among the scientists, scholars and students in this seminar will enrich the people who are familiar with the benefits of the microbes traditionally but are quite ignorant about their mode of activity. Apart from this, the recommendations of this seminar will once again knock the policy makers to adopt the benefit of microbes in these fields for qualitative and quantitative improvement.

The Theme:

The conference will focus on the recent developments in the field of Agriculture, Food and Pharmaceuticals by the application of microbial technology. Following areas will be covered through interactive discussion among scientists, researchers, students and entrepreneurs.
• Biofertilizer
• Biopesticide
• Microbial food processing & preservation
• Food colourants and contaminants
• Production and advance application of microbial enzyme
• Microbial polymers
• Microbes mediated Pharmaceutical products
• Probiotics

About University:
Vidyasagar University established on 29th September 1981 as a rural University under the name of Pandit Iswar Chandra Bandyopadhyay, known as Vidyasagar, the educationist and social reformer of Bengal. It is located 2 km apart from Midnapore Rly. Station and 12 km apart from IIT, Kharagpur. The University is established with a mission to provide an answer to the needs of the region, ethnic, sociocultural and geographical along with mainstream education. The university logo with the motto “Education, Knowledge, Progress” embodies the mission stated above.
Department of Microbiology was established in 2001. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in both teaching and research on different applied aspects of microbiology like enzyme, biofertilizer, biocolour, plant antibiotic, etc.
About Midnapore:
The district Midnapore has a very high place for her contribution to the past history for independence and cultures of Bengal and as such plays a significant role for the future. The physiographical location of the district is on the borders of Orissa and Bihar and the district has great affinities with the districts of Chotonagpur and Santal Parganas of Bihar.
