One of the reasons of food shortage is lack of latest food preservation & processing facilities in the country. As a result, consumer of these products has to spend more money.

On the other hand, when the supply is in excess the precious crop is wasted because farmers don't have knowledge & access to food preservation & processing facilities.

The proper establishment of the food processing industry will not only benefit the farmer but also there will be no shortage of food items in off-season. In addition, if surplus food is available this might be might be exported to earn foreign exchange.

The exporters of food products also face serious problems of not having proper food processing & preservation facilities. As a result of that, most of the fruits & vegetables exported reach at the destination in a spoiled form that only cause financial loss to the exporter but it earns bad name for Pakistan.

The objective of the workshop is to enhance the understanding of the role of chemical engineering professional & all the stakeholders in the food processing industries in Pakistan. in addition to this, identify the technology required for the development & establishment of this industry in the rural areas of Pakistan, where most of the raw material is available from agricultural sources. All the current issues will be addressed to give policy recommendations for the government, industry & NGO's (Farmers Organization) of the country.
