Digital Architecture is a particularly dynamic field that is developing through the work of architecture schools, architects, software developers, researchers, technology, users, and society alike. Digital design tools in the architectural office no longer are prominent outsiders, but have become ubiquitous tools for all professionals. At the same time, techniques and tools developed in other fields for other uses are entering the area of architectural design. Information and communication technologies provide the impetus for rapid change in the strategies by which we teach and conceptualise architecture at large. It is becoming diffi cult to think of an architectural education without reference to digital architecture. Digital production, representation and manufacturing processes demonstrate powerful tools by which architects conceptualise the design process, the ways in which these processes organise labour and bring about new patterns of work and socialisation across space and time. This results in exciting challenges for researchers in well-established disciplines and opportunities for those in emerging ones.
Seoul, one of the richest cities in the world in terms of heritage, is a place where past, present and future all come face-to-face. This provides a unique location in
which evolution and interconnectivity can be witnessed on many levels. This manifests itself in the city as a maze of real and virtual, visible and invisible interconnections. Cultivating the past and making the connection to present and future, has long since become part of Seoul’s development strategy.
This meeting calls for innovative and original papers in the field of digital architecture and construction, presenting high-quality research and development work. Papers should point towards the future but be based on a thorough understanding of the past and present.
