I would like to tell you about the first-ever “Sisterhood Symposium - 2006 Women’s Spa Getaway”. Girlfriend getaways are definitely a trend according to spa travel specialists, especially for the 25 - 40’s set, already dealing with the stress of fast-paced careers while dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and women of all ages are getting away to bond with long-time friends and female family members.
The Sisterhood Symposium, which will be held August 24 – 27, 2006 at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort & Spa, located in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM, will attract approximately 500 female executives representing, national and international corporations, government and non-profit organizations. In addition, this event will serve as a venue to heighten participant’s awareness in the areas of health and fitness, nutrition, career and personal finance.
This women conference was inspired by my own journey from health (as a forgone conclusion) to prolonged hospital stays and back to mental and physical fitness. In September 2004, I was hospitalized off and on for two months with an undiagnosed illness. The symptoms included a fever as high as 104, severe headaches, a stiff neck and an inability to move my lower extremities. Although my diagnosis is a continuing mystery to doctors, they prescribed several medications (particularly a high dose of steroids) to address my symptoms.
During the next year, my physical activity was limited due to a “mysterious migrating” pain, I became slightly depressed and gained forty-five pounds. After having my knee drained twice and not being able to fit any of my clothes, I realized I needed to be proactive with respect to my health. I began to workout with a personal trainer, utilized online nutritional education to eat healthier and balanced my personal, work and social life. Having taken charge of my health has helped me improve my outlook on life. I have developed a lifestyle change and am working towards a healthy lifestyle that includes good mental as well as physical health.
Although I first thought about a women’s getaway in 2003, the idea crystallized as I experienced my own mental and physical challenges. The Sisterhood Symposium is a vehicle for a diverse group of women like me, busy with careers, families and lacking time for self to take a step back, relax, reconnect and rejuvenate.
Women of different ethnicities and income levels are invited to shop, spa and stay with us in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. We will also have a surprise entertainer just for the women.
