Description VicOUG's "Best Practices Symposium and Lectures"

The Victoria Oracle Users Group (VicOUG) is very pleased to announce that it will be holding its "Best Practices Symposium and Lectures" September 11-13 (Monday-Wednesday), 2006. The purpose of this event is to give members of the IT community in and around Victoria the opportunity to hear from individuals who are some of the most knowledgeable in their fields in North America.

All IT practitioners, regardless of their current role, should hear each of our speakers give us their Best Practices recommendations, if only so that we can understand better the needs of our clients and colleagues.

SPEAKERS
These individuals include, in alphabetical order:
Dr. Paul Dorsey, the founder and President of Dulcian, Inc. (www.dulcian.com), an Oracle consulting firm that specializes in business rules-based Oracle Client-Server and Web custom application development..

Steven Feuerstein, considered one of the world's leading experts on the Oracle PL/SQL language.

Kent Graziano, Manager of the Enterprise Data Integration team at the Denver Public Schools in Denver, Colorado, past president of the Oracle Development Tools User Group and of the Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group, and first dean of the IOUG University.

David C. Hay, who has been producing data models to support strategic information planning and requirements analysis for nearly twenty years.

David Wendelken, who has authored many technical articles on Oracle software development and is the co-author of The Designer Handbook (published by Addison-Wesley).

EVENTS
Day 1
To be held at the Victoria Conference Centre, Day 1 will have six consecutive sessions. Each of our speakers (we're still negotiating for the sixth speaker) will give a 60-minute presentation on a subject for which they are well known. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear all presentations, because the presentations will run consecutively. At the final session of the day, all presenters will participate in a panel discussion during which they will respond to questions prepared in advance for the session. If time permits, our experts will also take questions from the floor.

Day 2
On Day 2, registrants may attend any one of six day-long lectures with any one of the presenters. We expect that these lectures (except for Steven Feuerstein’s) will be held in classrooms at the Interurban campus of Camosun College. During these lectures, the presenters will expound in detail on one or more subjects in which they have expertise. Attendees will be able to interact much more closely with the presenters in these sessions than on the first day. In order to maximize the amount of information presenters can provide to attendees, Day 2 sessions will be done in a lecture, rather than hands-on, format.

Day 3
And on Day 3, two of our presenters have graciously consented to do a second full-day lecture if we have sufficient demand.

Meals will be provided to registrants on all days.

REGISTRATION
You can learn more about this event, and register for the Symposium and individual lectures, on the Events page.

There are fees for attending the Symposium and for attending the individual lectures. There are separate fees for members and non-members, and prices increase as September approaches.
Day 2 and 3 workshop seating is limited, so register early to ensure you get your seat at the best price.

SPONSORS
This event could not have happened without the support of three key sponsors, Oracle Canada, OA Solutions, and Camosun College. These sponsors have been long-time supporters of VicOUG.

Funding from Oracle Canada has allowed us to hold the Day 1 Symposium at the Victoria Conference Centre. We are also grateful to Oracle for advertising our event to the world.

OA Solutions helped VicOUG bring Thomas Kyte to Victoria in 2005, has covered the costs of maintaining our domain registration, and has sponsored refreshments at a number of our regular, monthly meetings. This year, OA Solutions is helping us to meet a great number of our event expenses.

Camosun College has provided rooms to us for our monthly meetings over the past year, and are now allowing us to use rooms at their Interurban Campus for our workshops on Days 2 and 3 of this event. Camosun is also hosting this new website for us.

SUMMARY
This is a great opportunity to hear from speakers who are widely-regarded in the Oracle community for their expert knowledge.

Until July 15, VicOUG members can hear all six speakers for just $50CDN, or can attend a full-day workshop with the expert of their choice for just $225CDN.
Not a member? Join the Victoria Oracle Users Group for just $30CDN.

You won't find a better educational deal than this until our next Best Practices Symposium in 2007. Register now!
