NAA is the leading voice of the afterschool profession dedicated to the development, education, and care of children and youth during their out-of-school time hours. We are a professional association with a membership component—our membership includes more than 9,000 practitioners, policy makers, and administrators representing all public, private, and community-based sectors of afterschool programs.
We accomplish our mission by focusing on three primary areas:
· Professional Development
· Program Improvement and Quality
· Public Policy and Advocacy
We have the strength of a national organization and the ability to reach the profession and NAA members with a “local,” targeted approach through 35 state affiliates and by working with many national organizations with similar missions in the afterschool field. Our partners include the four branches of the United States Military (Community and Family Policy, Department of Defense), 4-H, YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Girl Scouts, the Afterschool Alliance, the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies, The Forum for Youth Investment, AED Center for Youth Development and Policy Research Academy for Educational Development, and The Finance Project.
The National AfterSchool Association’s 19th Annual Conference will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, March 21 – Friday, March 23 in 2007. The NAA Conference is the premier education and networking gathering of the afterschool professional community.
Attendees represent youth-serving organizations, community learning centers, public schools, parks and recreation departments, faith-based programs, military bases ... the full gamut of afterschool programming. Also meet with leaders from training, research and funding organizations, government agencies, and for-profit programs across the country.
Together we will learn and share successes and ideas that can be applied to enhance afterschool programs and aid the professional development of the afterschool community.
