| Description |
CeSMEC will host the fourth meeting of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (SMEC) in April, 2007. The focus of the 4-day meeting will be to promote interdisciplinary research in the fields of geophysics, solid state physics, high pressure physics and chemistry and materials science.
High-pressure petrology and mineralogy
Deep Earth geochemistry (including water in the mantle)
The oxidation state of the earth and other planets
Earth's core
Mineral physics
Computational physics
Thermodynamic databases and calculation of high pressure phase equilibrium
High-pressure materials science
Biological and organic systems under pressures
Hydrogen solid-storage materials (including clathrates).
Sponsored by Florida International University's College of Engineering, and the Center of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (CeSMEC), the meeting will bring together scholars from all over the world at the Marco Polo Beach Resort , North Miami Beach. The proceedings are expected to be published in the Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids.
We expect sponsorship by COMPRES and CDAC and active cooperation of colleagues from GSECARS, HPCAT and several National Laboratories. The satellite meeting on Correlated Materials with Novel Function will be organized by N.Saini as in the past years. The colleagues from the NSF International Materials Institute (Iowa State, Maryland and FIU) may also hold a satellite meeting.
