In recent years a relatively large number of novel essential targets have been proposed by using genomics and bioinformatics approaches as well as technologies, such as high-throughput screening and sequencing, which have clearly played a key role in identifying leads for optimization. To successfully tackle the antibacterial resistance, novel targets are only part of the equation. Challenges that also need to be addressed are topics such as predicting toxicology, selectivity, resistance, permeability and pk of a new lead and creating new models for optimization of leads and compounds. This conference is designed to bring together top level scientists from the academic, pharmaceutical and biotech area to define and refine the path of developing novel antibacterials.
