Description The Canadian Forces Leadership Institute and the Royal Military College of Canada on behalf of the Canadian Defence Academy, in conjunction with the Defence Ethics Program, are pleased to announce the 7th Canadian Conference on Ethical Leadership (CCEL 7).

The theme of this year's Conference will focus on the chaotic and complex security environment in which the Canadian military and its allies are called to serve.

This environment has been shaped by the challenges of modern military operations as well as the shifting societal and geo-political realities of a volatile world. These factors have defined the manner in which military members react to ever changing and often ambiguous situations. More than ever, our military personnel are required to adopt and embrace ethical Behaviour that is central to achieving mission success.

Keynote speakers will include Professor Asa Kasher from Tel Aviv University, Israel; Dr. Martin Cook from US Air Force Academy; Col (Ret'd) Janis Karpinski former Commander of three large US and British prisons in Iraq; B. Gen Edwin R. Micewski, Director of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Defence Academy, Vienna; Ms Carol Off, renowned journalist, author of The Ghosts of Medak Pocket; VAdm (Ret'd) Greg. Maddison, former Deputy Chief of Defence Staff; Dr Michael Byers, Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the U of British Columbia; Mr. Chris Wattie, senior national reporter with the National Post; Mr. Adam Day, staff reporter for Legion magazine.

This conference seeks proposals that cover a number of sub-themes to facilitate the participation of researchers, scholars, practitioners and professionals in this conference. CCEL 7 will provide a venue for presentations of research findings and discussions, and broaden the understanding of expectations and ethical challenges faced by military members.

The conference sub-themes include:

- The Future Security Environment
- The Ethics of Countering Terrorism
- Ethical Behaviour and the Military/Ethical challenges in the Future Security Environment
- International Law and the Fight against Terrorism
- Ethical Decision-Making In Operations
- Private sector Partnerships and Public Responsibilties
- Ethics of Military and Societal Expectations - The Media's Perspective
- Future of Ethics
