Isfahan , Iran
Location: The city is located at 414 kilometers south of Tehran, on the east slopes of the Zagrous mountain chain at an altitude of 1575 meters from sea level. Isfahan has been built on the alluvium of Zayandeh-roud (life giving river) which passes through the heart of the town and divides it into two parts interconnected by word famous historical bridges. The international airport of Isfahan is 35 kilometers northeast of the city and has many daily flights to other cities of Iran and some foreign countries.
History, Monuments: The history of Isfahan goes back to antiquity. The glory of the city reached its peak on 1598 when Shah Abas the Great chose Isfahan as the capital of his dynasty. Then followed a period where magnificent monuments were constructed: The Imam Square with its Mosques, the palace and the great bazaar; the majestic bridges over the river Zayandeh-roud; magnificent gardens and large avenues.
Climate: Isfahan has semidry climate with an annual average temperature of 16 C. On May, temperatures usually vary from 16 C to 35 C and rain is rather rare.
Handicrafts: Isfahan is word-renowned for its exquisite carpets, miniature painting (sometimes made by using one hair of a brush), engraved metalwork in brass, copper or silver, hand-printed cotton and muslin, and the unique art of Khatam-Kari.
