Description CALL FOR PAPERS
International Conference on Occupational Voice Research (ICOVR)
Friday-Saturday, October 12-13, 2007
The University of Texas at San Antonio
San Antonio, TX USA

The University of Texas at San Antonio invites interested investigators to submit abstracts for presentation consideration at an international meeting on occupational voice research, to be held in San Antonio, Texas, USA on October 12-13, 2007. Papers are encouraged on the following heavy voice use occupational groups:

1. The teaching voice user (such as school teachers, daycare workers, fitness instructors)
2. The performing voice user (broadcasters, actors, singers)
3. The persuasive voice user (politicians, lawyers, ministers, auctioneers, and all salespeople, including telemarketers)
4. The service voice user (counselors, operators, customer service assistants)
5. The emergency voice user (police, fire, emergency medical technicians, homeland security, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, military)

In addition to reporting ongoing research on the voice use of these occupations, papers are also invited on the following topics:

1. The impact of vocal environmental hazards in the workplace and their mitigation (background noise; exposure to dust and other chemical agents; limitations in voice technology that cause maladaptive behaviors; being in life threatening situations)
2. Habilitative interventions (i.e. voice therapy tailored to each type of voice use)
3. Technological interventions (i.e. amplifiers, noise filtering)

Abstracts must be submitted electronically to the conference coordinator in Microsoft Word or PDF format and should be limited to 500 words. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2007. Notice will be given to all submitting authors by March 15, 2007.

Minorities, persons with disabilities, and students attending U.S. universities are particularly encouraged to submit papers. Travel grants to assist members of these three groups in attending the meeting may become available in the near future, pending the funding of a conference grant by NIH.

Keynote speakers at the conference will include Ingo Titze, Nelson Roy, Robert Hillman, Anne-Maria Laukkanen, Maria Södersten and Philippe DeJonckere.
