Government College of Engineering, Amravati was established in 1964. It is an autonomous institute of Govt. of Maharashtra and affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The institute offers seven UG courses and six PG programme in engineering discipline and has own campus spread over 105 acres. Five UG programmes have been accredited by NBA. The institute was selected under Canada India Industry Institute Linkage Project (CIILIP) and is presently selected under Technical Education Quality Improving Programme (TEQIP) by Govt. of India.
Civil engineering department is oldest and accredited department of the institute. The department conducts an UG course and two PG courses. The departments also conducts certificate course in Interior Design and CADD. Department is also involved in extending testing and consultancy services to various industries, government and public sector organization.
Civil engineers play major role in the development of national infrastructure. All structures constructed in the past exhibit the path of civilization and current development express the practice followed by professional engineers. However, simultaneously researchers are working on the expansion of present knowledge of materials, analysis, design and construction practices. Nanomaterials, robotics application, artificial intelligence, advance computational methods, impact of information technology on Civil engineering projects, GIS and advance testing methods are some of areas where updating of knowledge is necessary.
This is an exciting and challenging period for civil engineers. To meet the requirement of today and tomorrow an integrated approach in all field is necessary. Therefore, an attempt has been made to bring researchers, academicians and practicing engineers on a single platform to discuss various issues of emerging technology and developments in civil engineering.
