Specifiers¡¦ Design Forum Conference to Deliberate External Envelope Design
Following the success of its inaugural conference in May 2006 , the Specifiers¡¦ Design Forum today announced its plan to host a valid CPD event on Building Envelope Performance on 29 March 2007 at the Novartis Foundation, Portland Place, London W1.
Leading industry experts, including Mike Foster of Tooley And Foster, Alan Jones, National Tech Leader of SKM Anthony Hunts, Stephen Cherry, Director of Horden Cherry Lee Architects, Peter Caplehorn, Technical Director of Scott Brownrigg, Brian Murphy of National Green Specification and Dr Andrew Stanway, Developer and Psychologist will be discussing how to achieve exterior envelope performance without compromising the integrity of the original design vision.
Specifiers¡¦ Design Forum spokesperson, Howard de Mont of Sidell Gibson, A.A. Dipl. RIBA, comments, ¡§The seminar subject moves on from the broad value of specification's contribution to the design process, covered in the first conference, to one of the most important aspects of architecture - the elevations.
¡§The envelop of a building is not only visual, but also is an expression of the performance specification describing it, in order to maintain comfort of the occupants.
¡§The speakers will debate how performance specifications underscore the design objective and how the structure and secondary structure can support the external ambitions.¡¨
ć Alan Jones of (SKM) Anthony Hunt will discuss the relationship between structure and cladding
ć Stephen Cherry of Horden Cherry Lee will explain the curtain wall tower block in Broadgate and the functionality of pixilation on glass
ć Brian Murphy of NGS Green Spec will demonstrate how it is possible to specify green external envelopes
ć Andrew Stanway (Developer/Psychologist) will explain why the enclosing envelope is so important
ć Howard de Mont of Sidell Gibson Architects will trace the developments of the envelop from medieval glass to diamond faceted building geometry
ć Peter Caplehorn of Scot Brownrigg will be talking about the challenges that faces the specifiers when it comes to the building envelope
