Folk Tradition and Education School offers the unique opportunity to establish a privileged relation with the living Greek folk tradition and the current forms of its artistic revival, focusing at its applications in education, aesthetic education and the arts.
Situated in a region with exceptional historical and cultural interest that offers a unique panorama of the continuity of Greek civilization from Neolithic times (Dimini and Sesclo archeological sites) to present days. Mount Pelion was the haunt of the mythical Centaurs and the port of Volos (known as Iolkos in antiquity) has seen the departure of the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece. In Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine times the region continues to thrive till the remarkable late development (17th- beginning of 20th century) of many folk art forms (architecture, woodcarving, folk literature, painting e.t.c.) and the emergence of particular artistic styles. The variety of the landscape (wooded mountain, dry hills, lake, islands) is reflected to the wide range of its cultural profile.
