After attending this conference, participants should be able to understand the rationale for targeted therapy in cancer care, discuss the specialized techniques and nursing interventions used in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of cancers, including multiple myeloma, gynecological, breast and prostate cancers, identify non-traditional cancer treatment methods of chemotherapy delivery and minimally invasive surgery, develop strategies to help patients manage depression and anxiety and explore the benefits of art therapy. Participants will also be able to describe the role of genetics in cancer and its impact in nursing practice, discuss the implications and nursing interventions for cognitive impairment in oncology patients and the specialized care for the older adult, identify culturally sensitive nursing interventions in caring for select Asian populations and explore professional nursing practice issues regarding generational differences, dispelling myths and maintaining the ability to provide compassionate care.
