Day 1: Friday, November 30, 2007
Themes: 1. Health Concerns & Latest Research Findings, and 2. Successes/Challenges for Protecting Health
Day 1, Friday, November 30th will focus on the latest research findings and community concerns about the health impacts of goods movement. A panel of scientists will share information about recent health studies, and community members will share their successes and challenges in their efforts to protect community health. There will also be open microphone sessions to allow comment from conference participants, and breakout sessions for participants to meet and discuss the issues.
Day 2: Saturday, December 1, 2007
Themes: 1. Building Bridges, Solutions & Strategies for Change, and 2. Ratifying a Platform & Plan of Action
Day 2, Saturday, December 1st will focus on building bridges, solutions and strategies for change. A panel of academic, labor, environmental, and community representatives will discuss the economic issues related to goods movement. During breakout sessions, conference participants will have the opportunity to discuss topics such as outreach tools, bridging the gap between environmental, labor, and community groups, climate change, globalization, alternative technologies and strategies, and media strategy. Conference participants will come together at the end of the day to develop an alternative vision for their communities, and ratify a platform and plan of action around goods movement related environmental/community health issues.
