WORKSHOP LOCATION
Fez, one of the old cities, is spiritual capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. Fez El Bali, the oldest facet of the medina of Fez is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1981.
The Kerouan heritage includes the imposingly rich Qaraouiyyin, the first university in the western world and still today one of the main intellectual centres of North Africa.
Fez was for more than 400 years a capital of Morocco, therefore it contains many interesting monuments related to the different dynasties being there.
Fez is the spiritual and cultural centre of traditional Morocco and the most imperial of all the imperial cities.
Several International Airlines connect directly to Fes. It is also easily reached from Casablanca, which has an international airport, by train or by bus (4 hours).
The Workshop will be held in the Royal Mirage Fes Hotel (Ex Sheraton Fes) which is located in the heart of Fez, and at 15 minutes from the airport.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME
WORKSHOP PRE-EXCURSION: ONE DAY VISIT WILL BE ORGANIZED ON OCTOBER 17TH, 2007, TO MEKNES CITY AND VOLUBILIS
Meknes is an imperial city built by Moulay Ismaïl, who undertook the task to making this town into a capital worthy of his image. Palaces, Mosques, fountains, terraces, gardens, stables and shops were built without any respite over a period of 50 years.
After Moulay Ismaïl dinasty, Meknes never ceased to make other dreams. There are its gates, its monumental gates, opening in the mighty walls to give access to the wonders of the city. Bab Al-Mansour, the main gate- and the finest in Morocco, leading the immense mechouar where stands the mausoleum of Moulay Ismaïl.
The countryside around Meknes is also a delight; lush and peaceful, gently rolling and planted with olive trees, where the ancient Roman City of Volubilis has slumbered for more than two thousand years. A countryside which gives views onto Mount Zerhoun on which is perched the holy city of Moulay Idriss, the city of green roofs.

DINNER AT “ROYAL MIRAGE FES HOTEL (EX SHERATON FES)” ON THURSDAY 18TH
VISIT AND DINNER AT “PALAIS LA MEDINA” ON FRIDAY 19TH

www.palaismedina.com
At the entrance of the «PALAIS LA MEDINA», a musical orchestra welcome you. As the evening progresses, different folklore troupes animate the dinner where different specialities of Moroccan cuisine are tasted.
HALF DAY VISIT OF FEZ WILL BE ORGANIZED ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON ON OCTOBER 20TH
The city tour will give you the local feeling of Fez architecture splendor. The participants will have an excursion visit of the old medina with its narrow streets by their merchants of silver and ornaments, the museums where admirable collections of traditional art are exposed (sculpted wood, potteries..), souks and marvellous palaces...
