SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: TOPICS 1 AND 2: COMMON TUMORS IN THE OFFICE SETTING - Parts I and II - Identify common cutaneous tumors, both benign and malignant. Devise a treatment plan, with options including observation, biopsy/removal, and referral. TOPIC 3: INFECTION IN DERMATOLOGY - Categorize various infectious processes involving the skin. Initiate treatment of common cutaneous infections. TOPICS 4 AND 5: MALIGNANT MELANOMA - Parts I and II - Utilize the ABCDE approach to the description of pigmented lesions and the features of melanoma. Describe the biology of melanomas. Describe the surgical approach to melanomas. Recognize “dysplastic nevi” and describe the relationship between dysplastic nevi and melanomas. Explain to patients the methods of photoprotection and the relationship of the sun to melanomas. TOPIC 6: FEVER AND RASH - Identify life-threatening skin conditions present with a fever. Generate a differential diagnosis for a fever and rash.
