The key priorities for the rolling stock industry are to increase capacity and performance whilst reducing energy consumption. With the rise in low-cost air travel the railways need to be in a position to compete with other forms of transport as passengers demand better ride comfort, reliability and reduced fares.

The challenge to manufacturers is to negotiate complex standards and regulations to be able to introduce a new train; this can cause a barrier to new entrants to the market as well as increases in costs and complexity. There is also a perceived poor reliability of new rolling stock when compared to those trains that they have replaced for the industry to overcome.

The aim of the seminar is to appraise and address these issues; exploring the challenges faced by the UK manufacturing base and the emerging manufacturing exporters.Key Benefits To demonstrate the latest advances in new technology with case studies from leading rolling stock manufactures. To explore the requirements and debate the key issues such as infrastructure compatability, energy efficiency, regulatory requirements, reliability and the industry’s views of how to tackle them. The unique knowledge gained will be key for the professional development for engineers in this field; contributing to participants’ companies’ success and the growth of their own careers. To provide a unique networking opportunity and a forum for discussion of rolling stock issues.
