Venue Dayton Urban League
Description Dayton) – The fourth annual Pen To Paper Literary Symposium, sponsored by the Mark Baker Foundation (MarkBakerFoundation.org) and Pen of the Writer (PenoftheWriter.com), will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Dayton Urban League (DaytonUrbanLeague.org), 907 West Fifth Street. Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m.
Valerie L. Coleman, symposium coordinator says, “The Pen to Paper Literary Symposium provides a wealth of information on the art and business of writing. Attendees gain insight from mainstream and self-published authors, editors, agents and an attorney. This year we’ve expanded the symposium to include sessions for music and screen writing.”
Victoria Christopher Murray (VictoriaChristopherMurray.com), Essence best-selling author of six novels including A Sin and a Shame and The Ex Files, opens the event by inspiring attendees to fulfill their dream with passion. Carolyn Howard-Johnson (HowtoDoItFrugally.com) will share her expertise on effective marketing techniques. Her nitty gritty how-to book, The Frugal Book Promoter, won USA Book News' Best Professional Book 2004. Jonathan Edison (JonathanEdison.net), international motivational speaker, concludes the day with strategies that have empowered thousands to overcome obstacles and achieve "unstoppable" success.
The symposium features an Author Showcase on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Sinclair’s Ponitz Center. Aspiring writers, book clubs, avid readers and the public are invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, an on-site bookstore, and products and services from local businesses including Christian Care Massage and My Sweet Cakes. Meet and greet local, national and international best-selling authors celebrating the release of Tainted Mirror An Anthology (PenoftheWriter.com/Tainted) and Battled Clergy: From Victim to Victor (JoTreInspirationalBooks.com); along with live music performances by Dayton’s own Christopher (MySpace.com/SpiritualRealSoul), Tonya Baker (TonyaBaker.com), Deron Bell (DeronBell.com) and L-Marr the Great. A portion of the $10 admission will be applied to scholarships for students of the Passionate Pens program (PassionatePens.com) and Mark Baker Foundation.
