Survival rates of children and adolescents with cancer have increased dramatically through systematic testing of medicinal products. Further progress will depend on bringing the potential therapeutic benefit of innovative medicines to existing therapeutic concepts. Most childhood cancer types are specific to the paediatric population, but innovative medicines development is focused on adults until now.

Today’s therapeutic standard in paediatric oncology: Patients are included into clinical trials conducted by international collaborative groups. These thrive to develop better treatment concepts, and the place for innovative, targeted and conventional therapies has continuously to be redefined and adapted.

Triggered by the new EU Paediatric Regulation, Paediatric Investigation Plans will have to respect and include the understanding and expectations of European paediatric oncology communities and of regulatory authorities; and when agreed by EMEA’s scientific Paediatric Committee, the Plans will be binding for implementation.

This conference will allow to understand the expectations of the key stake holders in paediatric oncology and aims to provide a preliminary common understanding.
