The GUIDE Thematic Workshop American Area is the third of a series of regional meetings of excellence organised in collaboration with Università Telematica "Guglielmo Marconi" in order to improve cooperation and intercultural research between American universities, institutions, public and private bodies which are devoted to distance education and e-learning.
Bringing together academic research and practical application, the event aims at advancing the practice of e-learning by comparing the results achieved in the field of new methodologies and applications for distance learning, web-enabled technology, e-communication and networked universities in both Industrialized and Developing Nations.

The main themes of 2008 Workshop American Area will cover aspects such as distance education and training, e-inclusion and accessibility, digital divide and digital opportunities, sustainable integration of microfinance with education, knowledge dissemination and social interaction. The conference will investigate the possibility to build up a new system of cooperative relations between academic and private sectors for the sharing of information and technological resources. While paying special attention to the comparative analysis of different learning environments and innovative standards and tools, the debate intends to enhance and effective use of technology through the adoption of new blended solutions and flexible, multidisciplinary and informal learning models.

The Workshop contributes to the sharing of best practices and experiences in connecting higher education with the new cultural and economic context and in developing and implementing the internationalisation of higher education and curricula.

An innovative approach to e-learning and models of reference used and promoted by GUIDE Association will also be illustrated in order to elaborate new suggestions for the definition of a common intervention field based on “good practices” and “quality standards” in view of a Quality Assessment and Certification of trans-national education systems.
