About the 2008 Event

The Biotechnology Industry Organization proudly presents the Fifth Annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology & Bioprocessing to be held April 27-30, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois. The convergence of biotechnology, chemistry and agriculture is opening doors to innovations and value chain creation that could revolutionize nearly every aspect of our lives, from industrial manufacturing to production of chemicals, consumer goods, and even environmental protection.

During the past five years, we have witnessed significant advances in industrial biotechnology and bioprocessing of agricultural feedstocks, new ways to make pharmaceuticals, advances in food ingredients and flavorings, commercialization of biobased products, development of new chemical platforms, creation of new types of agricultural crops, the convergence of nanotechnology and biotechnology and increased interest in marine biotechnology. These advances have come about because of applications involving genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics that are being applied to new problem sets. This conference aims to bring together individuals with diverse experience to share knowledge that will speed the development and growth of a sector that is vital for value creation and sustainable industrial development.

This conference will foster the exchange of ideas and will provide "real world" scenarios that can be applied in daily practice, and it will present an overview of the latest technological developments. The 2008 World Congress will be geared towards a diverse base of participants from biotechnology, chemical and other industries, as well as government and academia. The conference will feature technical sessions for business, academic and research-related presentations on topics such as biotechnology in manufacturing and synthesis, industrial biotech in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care products, foods, flavorings, bioprocessing of agricultural feedstocks, bioenergy production, biotechnology and climate change, issues surrounding the application of biotechnology to industrial sustainability, enzymes for environmental remediation, bioplastics, pulp and paper processing, national defense applications, nano-biotech, animal feed ingredients, bioethanol production and much more.
