The Sekondi-Takoradi Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with Parkview Sports & Media Limited and Coastal Network Consortium Limited will hold a Business Opportunities Conference at the Takoradi Shippers Council on January 22, 2008 and a tour of some Economic potential areas on January 23, 2008. Invited representatives from Government, Local and Foreign Investors, Entrepreneurs, Bankers, Mining, Oil and Energy sector operatives and Institutions concerned with trade and investment issues in Western Region of Ghana will participate.

The conference will intensify work on the identification and optimisation of economic opportunities around GHANA CAN 2008 to benefit the general business community of Sekondi-Takoradi, the Western Region, Ghana as a nation and the West African sub-region as a whole in the various business sectors. It will address the barriers that have in diverse ways slowed down the effective and efficient exploration and utilization of the numerous and abundant resources in the region for the growth of the region and its people.

The conference is expected to identify some interventions needed to ensure participation and growth in the private sector in the regional and the national economy.

It will also enable partnerships between small and medium sized en, as well enterprises as well A the public and private sectors to ensure economic participation in the opportunities arising from the African Cup of Nations.

The Government of Ghana has challenged the country's private sector to take advantage of the many business opportunities on offer from Ghana's hosting of the African Cup of Nations tournament.

“Ghana is currently one of the best-performing economies in Africa. By improving policies and institutions and investing in infrastructure and basic services, Ghana has brought down poverty levels. Economic growth accelerated to 6 percent in 2005.Ghana looks set to achieve middle-income country status by 2015. (World Bank report).

Soccer is no longer just a game as it has magnificent power to transcend political, economic and social boundaries. The Sekondi Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and other stakeholders would use the African Cup of Nations as a stimulant and a catalyst for economic and social development, and also use the opportunity to showcase socio-cultural and tourism infrastructure of the Western Region of Ghana.


The Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly aim at increasing investments and trade between Sekondi Takoradi and international market through exchange of information and business interactions among Government officials, financial institutions, investors and members of the trade and business communities across West Africa. The overall aim is to strengthen the economic development of Sekondi-Takoradi as well as Western Region of Ghana.
