Description The Institute for Environmental Modeling at the University of Tennessee invites applicants for a 4-day workshop to be held in the Spring of 2007 titled:

Computational Science for Natural Resource Managers

This four-day workshop will be held APRIL 11-14, 2007 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The workshop is designed for natural resource managers and academic researchers and students working on problems in resource management. The overall objective is to provide a rapid introduction to the application of computational approaches to the problems and practices associated with managing natural resources including harvest regulation, control of invasive species, fire management, disease ecology, and scenario analysis. The workshop will be led by a group of distinguished faculty with broad expertise in computational science and biological modeling. The workshop will include hands-on sessions with computational tools in addition to formal lectures and discussion sessions.

FEE
The registration fee is $300, which includes all materials as well as all meals during the workshop (breakfast, lunch and dinner for days 1-3 and breakfast and lunch on day 4).

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Significant financial support for travel, registration and housing expenses are available to qualified applicants.

FIELD TRIP TO GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS
The workshop will conclude with a field trip for all participants to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the afternoon of day 4. The mountains are exceptionally beautiful in April, with many flowering trees such as dogwood and other flowering plants including white trillium(the park has 10 different species of trillium). http://www.nps.gov/ grsm/index.htm

DEADLINES
Attendance will be by invitation only and will be limited to 40 participants. Review of applications begins January 1, 2007 with a final deadline of March 16th - individuals are urged not to delay in applying.
