The conference was being organized to create the awareness of the global practice in leadership and business. In this age of globalization, when all other continents are taking advantage of its benefits, the continent of Africa is being left behind. Then lays the question- what should be Africa approach and responses?
With her abundant natural resources Africa is still one of the poorest continents and the most backward in terms of technology advancement. She had highly potential human resources yet untapped. But bad leadership, violence, wars, high unemployment rate, poor healthcare facility and bad infrastructure had made Africans underachievers. Africa had been termed ‘A continent suffering amidst plenty’.
Leadership in Africa had been a great problem; a lot of African leaders are dictatorial in the governance of their country’s political affairs. Also, the attitude of ‘sit tight’ had been the norms of theses leaders, by which it had bastardized the reformed policy implementations in many African countries. The practice of corruption had been on the increase in the last 2 decades, of which it had left a lot of African citizenry impoverish and backward.
The conference first of its kind in Nigeria, will create the avenue for principled centre networks for business leaders and upcoming entrepreneurs. Also, to create a new roadmap for Africans to take up their places in the comity of nations. The events will cut across different sectors of Nigeria and African business. Workshops and training sessions are also being organized to share experiences and dissemination
The theme of the conference is ‘Business for a Better World’. The theme was chosen by the LOC to address the dearth of leadership and managerial skills in Nigeria and the African business world. Moreover, to create a forum where business and principled centred leadership can be enhanced and developed.
