| Description |
The National Association for Peace Education / Anti-Violence Education (NAPE) will hold its 9th Annual national meeting and exhibition in New Orleans April 27 & 28 at Sophie B. Wright and sponsored by Southern University at New Orleans.
The major thrust of this national organization is to create a forum of professional scholars from all walks of life to address the issue of implementing Peace Education in the academic curriculum of K-12 schools, colleges and universities across this country. NAPE is committed to encourage and support scholars in Teacher Education to conduct research in peace education and related disciplines. There is a critical need to provide peace education as content knowledge in an effort to equip our students with a repertoire of positive strategies that will enable them to make better choices when conflicts seem unavoidable and to respond positively to their current, often negative, circumstances. There is a great need to enhance the current K-12 curriculum. The National Association for Peace Education may be instrumental in providing an essential tool to strengthen the fiber of K-12 schools in the city, region and beyond.
This year's theme is “Tapestry of Excellence: Revitalizing our Community” and will focus on 5 important strands which include: (a) Best practices in classroom instruction, (b) Leadership and administration education (c) School-Community partnerships, (d) research and curriculum development, and (e) Health and wellness from conception through geriatrics.
