The first International Conference on the
Future of Medical Sciences will take place
under the auspices of the Umberto Veronesi
Foundation from 6th to 9th June 2007 on the
occasion of MilanoCheckUp.
The Conference features three days of reflections
on the major results achieved by biomedical
research and therapy. The objective is to set up
an annual meeting during the exhibition in Milan
with some of the world-renowned scientists
who, through the exchange of various
experiences and viewpoints, will contribute to
designing the healthcare scenario of the future.
The issues on the agenda take their cue from
three major revolutions in modern medicine: the
de-coding of DNA, which is creating a form of
Molecular Medicine aimed at interventions on
individual genes within a cell; imaging, enabling
us to obtain a virtual picture not only of our body,
but also of the biological activity taking place
within the molecules; and finally, demographic
evolution that, due to population aging trends
and frequent migration phenomena, has changed
the illness risk profile and the incidence rate of
the most serious illnesses. In order to ensure the
highest scientific level, the Umberto Veronesi
Foundation has put together an International
Scientific Committee, chaired by Luc Montagnier,
President of the World Foundation for Aids
Research and Prevention, and a Programme
Committee, chaired by Umberto Veronesi.
